A bit of history…

The Château of Lantheuil was built in 1613 by Antoine Turgot de Saint-Clair and is of Louis XIII style. It has beenclassified as an historic monument since 1931.
The historic lounges contain an exceptional collection of antique furniture, portraits, artworks as well as archive documents relating to the different periods and branches of the Turgot family.
The Turgots are from Scandinavian origin and were established in Normandy in 1309.

The visit recounts the family’s history, a family which gave many public servants to France.

Numerous family portraits and memorabilia illustrate the life of our famous ancestors from the Ancien Regime to today, walking you through the 18th century, the Empire era with the marshal Mouton Comte de Lobau, aide-de-camp to Napoleon the 1st and to the Second Empire and with the sovereign families of France and Austria

World War II has not totally unscathed the castle which was requisitioned by the German army in 1941 and occupied until1944.

Original and unpublished stories written by members of the family and witnesses of that period will interest historians and passionate amateurs.

The Estate still belongs and is still inhabited by the Turgot family.
